Community celebrates senior student-athletes at annual awards ceremony

From state qualifiers and league champions to valedictorians and multi-sport standouts, this year's senior class was celebrated Monday, June 1, during the 19th annual Senior Athletic Awards Night.

The event recognized the accomplishments of the Class of 2026 and highlighted the dedication required to succeed both in competition and in the classroom. Student-athletes, coaches, families, and supporters gathered to honor a senior class that has left its mark across nearly every corner of Stanwood athletics.

The evening honored seniors whose impact has extended far beyond the scoreboard. Thirty-nine student-athletes earned Academic Awards for maintaining outstanding academic performance while competing in athletics, while 33 seniors were recognized with prestigious Red and White Letter Awards for their sustained commitment and success across multiple seasons. Nine seniors also earned Multi-Sport Awards, showcasing exceptional dedication by competing in three sports during their high school careers.

A new tradition was also introduced this year as senior Izzy Jette was selected by her peers and Stanwood's head coaches to serve as the event's Student-Athlete Speaker.

Among the evening's highest honors, Taylor Almanza and Ryan Khoury received the WIAA Cliff Gillies Award, which recognizes outstanding scholarship, citizenship, and participation in school and community activities. Memphys Ellis and Mylee LaComb were named Stanwood Booster Club Athletes of the Year, while Cassandra Marquis and Levi Stiers earned Stanwood Booster Club Scholar-Athlete of the Year honors.

The evening also celebrated remarkable longevity and commitment to Stanwood athletics. Six seniors earned Red Letter Awards for accumulating between nine and 12 varsity letters during their high school careers, with Taylor Almanza, Stella Berrett, and Memphys Ellis each earning an impressive 11 varsity letters.

A total of 39 student-athletes received Academic Awards, 33 earned Red or White Letter Awards, and nine seniors were recognized as Multi-Sport Award recipients.
