Traffic Safety Education

Stanwood High School Traffic Safety is an authorized State Knowledge (written) and Skills (drive) testing center

Cost of class $440

All classes are taught by certificated Washington state instructors and graduates of Central Washington State University’s Traffic Safety program. Instructors are all certificated Washington state secondary instructors. 

Drive schedules flexible to meet student-driver’s activities, work, and athletic schedules.

Class dates through Summer 2025

Winter Session 3

January 7, 2025-February 7, 2025

Tentative classes will be held Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday depending on school class days, calendar, and state/county health guidelines. Drive schedules flexible to meet student-driver’s activities, work, and athletic schedules

Early Spring Session 4

February 18, 2025-March 21, 2025

Spring Session 5

April 15, 2025-May 16, 2025

Summer Session 1

May 27, 2025-June 27, 2025

Payment and Paperwork

We are authorized to give State Knowledge and Skills Test for people 21 and younger.

Payments for Traffic Safety Education can be made online by credit card through the SHS website or with cash/check at Stanwood High School's main office. Payment should be made only after the student has contacted Mr. Scott Knight, SHS TSE Coordinator, and is officially enrolled.

Please pre-apply for a Department of Licensing permit if you do not already have a State Issued ID card. (SEE YOUR INFO PACKET) Once complete, please make 2 copies of the confirmation. One is for your records and turn one in with your registration. AFTER WE ENTER YOUR PERMIT NUMBER INTO THE DOL PORTAL YOU CAN GO TO THE DOL TO PICK UP YOUR PERMIT.

We must have your 12 digit Permit # to enter your information into the DOL portal for permit waivers, course complete, knowledge and skill test results.

If your student is involved in sports or other after school activities, please call about alternative scheduling for drives.

Registration packets available online at Stanwood High School website school departments/traffic safety education, emailed or mailed to you. 

Accommodations Made for Drive Times including voluntary Sunday drives if needed.

DOL offices open by appointment only.

RATE SCHEDULE FOR STANWOOD TSE:

  • 34 hours of classroom, 6 hours of driving, 6 hours of backseat observation: $440.00
  • Exceeds State Minimum
  • Extra drives (per hour): $45.00
  • 30 min. practice drive test for state test (recommended): $30.00
  • No Show/No Permit Fee $45.00
  • State Knowledge Test: $25.00
  • State Skills Test: $30 retest $15

  • An extensive professional speaker program, including representatives from the Washington State Patrol
